The 2018 Big Give was a BIG success! Together, we raised $28,426… three times more than last year. A BIG thank you to our donors and volunteers!
Martha Spoor was a remarkable and beloved teacher at Alamo Heights Junior School, a teacher whose students and their families will never forget. As a fitting tribute to her memory, the Alamo Heights School Foundation has established something special for budding writers.
We are honored to announce the eighth annual Martha Spoor Summer Writing Workshop, to be held this summer, in which 15-20 participants will meet for 5 days. They will sharpen the skills we already have, learn some new writer’s craft, and enjoy producing and sharing new pieces together as a writing group. The final day will involve a celebration of works in progress and finished works.
If you are a current AHJS sixth, seventh or eighth grader, you are enthusiastically encouraged to apply.
If you have any questions, please email Dr. Frank Alfaro (Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education) at email@example.com.

The Alamo Heights School Foundation (AHSF) hosted its 7th annual “Greater Heights Night” on November 8th at the Witte Museum’s Mays Family Center. The community wide event, grossed more than $462,000 for the AHSF to enhance educational resources and academic opportunities for teachers and students in AHISD.
Event chair, Becky Gulley and co-chair Meredith Brewer, led a volunteer committee of 28 parents of students in the district to create an unforgettable evening titled, “Investing in the Future of Our Children.” Their collective efforts culminated in an occasion that encompassed both the past and the present of a more than 100-year-old school district.
“Although Greater Heights Night has existed only since 2011, it has rapidly evolved into a premiere community gathering that allows the Alamo Heights School Foundation to significantly contribute to the district year after year,” said Gulley. “While our goal each year is to offer a memorable event that raises the maximum amount of funds possible, our committee’s vision was to craft a means of showcasing the generations of students who have benefited from the education they received as members of the Alamo Heights school district. We are fortunate to have such incredible support from across the community, from sponsors and underwriters, to donors, attendees and entertainers, and are eternally grateful to each and every one who contributed to this year’s record-breaking success.”
More than 675 guests sampled cocktails and noshed on a gourmet buffet dinner by Paige Barteau Catering while they chatted and perused a silent auction featuring a variety of retail, entertainment and dining packages, as well as new categories such as Parent Parties and Unique Personal Experiences.
Alamo Heights alum Rick Shaw emceed the festivities, while alumni Dr. Graham Hall and Dr. Park Hedges performed live. Cebo Kleberg, a 6th grade student at Alamo Heights Junior School, sang and played guitar.
A Live Auction followed showcasing international travel, favorite local destination getaways, and an ultimate house party concert and catering. The evening’s fundraising activities was topped off with an amazing show of support for our schools during the Mules Up portion that raised more than $156,000 for our classrooms. What a beautiful evening and event that did so much good for our Alamo Heights schools!
